Republican state senator Joan Ballweg of Markesan has been appointed to serve as co-chair for the Children, Families and Human Services committee. The appointment was made by the National Conference of State Legislatures. “This is something that I think I can really make an impact at the national level leading this committee,” Ballweg told WFDL news. Senator Ballweg will co-chair the committee with Oregon Democratic state representative Lisa Reynolds for a two year term. Recently senator Baldwin’s proposal to expand kinship care placements to those who are like-kin was passed by the legislature. Ballweg says she hopes to see proposal like this enacted across the country during her time on the committee.
