Nobody was injured when an airplane crash landed at the Fond du Lac County Airport to avoid deer on the runway. Shortly before 6pm Friday the pilot of the plane reported he was about 500 feet above the ground with the landing gear and flaps extended when he saw several deer running down the runway toward him. The pilot said he was too low and flying too slow to go around attempted to “sidestep” to the taxiway but landed in between the runway and taxiway in the grass. The prop of the plane struck the ground and the nose and left main gear collapsed. The pilot, a passenger and pet dog were not injured. The FAA is investigating.
