2-27-24 republican state representative jerry o’connor statement on legislative session

MADISON –  Representative Jerry O’Connor (R- Fond du Lac) is proud of the State Assembly’s accomplishments that focused on moving Wisconsin forward.

This session, Assembly Republicans worked tirelessly to cut taxes, create affordable housing, invest in education, develop our infrastructure, support small businesses, and strengthen our economy.  “In this session, I focused on commonsense conservative solutions to our state’s problems. That means working for a small, sensible, and effective government that is concerned about our community’s short- and long-term successes,” said Rep. O’Connor.   “This session included many significant conservative victories that will go a long way in helping our state combat regressive forces in our society by promoting the Bill of Rights, securing our elections, and ensuring public officials are held accountable.”   Rep. O’Connor and the Assembly Republicans are committed to promoting and protecting conservative values that will keep Wisconsin moving forward by prioritizing our kids, seniors, and most vulnerable Wisconsinites to pave the way for our middle-class and rural areas to continue to grow and thrive,.  “When I first arrived to the Legislature, my priority was to deliver on the promise to work to improve the lives of all Wisconsinites through historic tax relief, improving our education system, including K-12 schools and the UW System, strengthen our economy, and ensure government accountability,” Rep. O’Connor continued. “I am proud to say that we have delivered on all of these promises. I am especially proud that my bills to combat human sex trafficking, tackle financial elder abuse, and guarantee admission to UW System schools for Wisconsin’s best and brightest all passed this session.”   “I am also proud to have worked for income tax relief for all Wisconsinites this session. The Republican budget included a historic $4.4 billion in tax relief, however, this proposal was vetoed by Gov. Evers. Last week Republicans passed a $2.1 billion ‘Returning Your Surplus” tax cut package, which included a $454 per filer income tax cut, $656 per filer Child & Dependent Tax Credit, $338 per filer Marriage Credit expansion, and $1,582 per filer Retirement Income Exemption, demonstrating our commitment to return the state’s surplus to its rightful owners: you.”   “This session has delivered many conservative legislative wins for Wisconsinites across the state, securing a promising future for our communities,” Rep.O’Connor elaborated. “Assembly Republicans have taken the lead by prioritizing the interests of taxpayer.”
