Now that Daylight Saving time has arrived, darker mornings and the lost hour of sleep will lead to more drowsy drivers. New research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reveals that drowsy driving is a quiet killer stalking our roads. State AAA spokesman Nick Jarmusz says drowsy driving is a much bigger problem than traditional crash data suggests. The study found that drowsy driving is a factor in roughly ten times as many traffic fatalities as traditional crash data indicates. According to the CDC there are certain demographic groups that are at greater risk of drowsy driving and related crashes. According to the new Foundation study drowsy drivers were involved in 18 percent of all traffic fatalities between 2017 and 2021, accounting for nearly 30,000 deaths.
