3-18-24 feyen says he voted to fire regents because they “weren’t up to the job”

Republican state senator Dan Feyen of Fond du Lac says he voted to fire two Universities of Wisconsin regents because he felt they weren’t up to the job.  The senate voted this week to reject confirming regents Dana Wachs and John Miller.  Both voted against a deal that limited campus diversity efforts.  “There was a compromise with the (UW) system and the legislature that put a lot of money into the UW system, these people voted against that, and I just don’t think they have the ability to do what’s best for the entire system, and that’s why I voted no and the rest of my colleagues voted no as well,”  Feyen told WFDL news.  Senator Feyen says Republicans in the senate take the confirmation process very seriously.  “We’ve confirmed 573 of his (governor’s) appointments.  We’ve only voted down 21 of them because we didn’t feel they were up to the job.”    The governor said in a statement Tuesday that he was “apoplectic” that Republican senators keep firing his appointees for no good reason.
