3-19-24 dodge county sheriff’s office cracking down on drivers without a valid drivers license

The Dodge County Sheriff says his office is changing it’s policy to become more aggressive in cracking down on drivers without a valid driver’s license.  Sheriff Dale Schmidt says effective immediately the Sheriff’s Office will no longer issue citations for Operating While Suspended, but will issue OWL citations and asking the District Attorney to prosecute in hopes of gaining compliance.  Schmidt says the change follows two recent cases involving chronic offenders.  A 21 year old Beaver Dam man had 14 prior OWS violations, and a 20 year old Columbus man with two dozen OWS violations and both had numerous incidents of failing to pay forfeitures.  “It’s simply a blatant disregard for the law and they don’t care,”  Schmidt told WFDL news.  Schmidt says in Wisconsin more and more drivers continue to drive time after time without a valid license even after they have been caught over and over again.
