A senior at Fond du Lac High School is running to be a Wisconsin delegate at the Democratic National Convention. Eighteen year old Landiran Kern Jr. says young people’s voices need to be heard. “I feel that the youth believe they are not being listened to on what we believe to be the real issues of the world,” Kern told AM 1170s Between the Lines program. Kern says he is reaching out to Fond du Lac County voters hoping they will vote for him at the upcoming county Democratic caucus. “I’m a representative of what the party wants. They want someone young, they want someone who is understanding of the politics, and what’s happening in the world and who is going to push to make things happen,” Kern said. Kern says a moment he will always remember was getting a chance to meet former president Barack Obama. “It was absolutely amazing. There are not enough words to truly describe it.” Kern admits that up to now he has hated politics, but at the same time feels a call to serve. He says a lot is at stake in the upcoming presidential election. “This upcoming election I truly believe is a race to save democracy,” Kern said. Kern will graduate this spring from Fond du Lac High School and plans to go to college to become an attorney.
