Hello Waupun!
I would like to begin this column by wishing you a very blessed Easter holiday.
Tuesday is Spring Election Day! The polls will be open 7am to 8pm. On the ballot we have the Presidental Preference, and elections for school board, city council, and mayor. As you can imagine, I would like you to show up and vote for me, but even if you don’t, I would still encourage you to turn out and exercise your constitutional right and to make your voice heard. As I write this, it’s Opening Day for Major League Baseball! That means Spring is in the air, and the city parks are reopening. On Monday, city park restrooms will reopen for the season. Speaking of spring, bulk pick up begins Monday and spring yard waste cleanup resumes. As the parks open, that means garbage cans will be placed at the parks. If you happen to be out on a walk and see a lot of spring garbage, please help keep Waupun clean; pick up the trash and toss it in our garbage cans. Finally, we’ve begun the process of overhauling our city’s purchasing policy to give local vendors a better chance; because we’re going to look at the total value, not just the cost. Sure, something might be cheaper to buy out of Waupun, but is it a better value? If we’re sending city employees to business out of the city, we’re likely losing whatever we saved by buying it out of Waupun. I would like to thank Alderman Dan Siebers for taking the lead on this issue and putting in a lot of work. Waupun is a great little city because we all support each other, and I feel strongly that the city should support the local businesses that support our community!
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
