The city of Fond du Lac is entering into a development agreement to renovate an historic downtown building. City manager Joe Moore says the developer is proposing housing on the first and second floor of the former Beernuts/Brickle Building on South Main Street, with commercial space on the Main Street portion of the building. Moore says the closure of the former tavern and the building going on the market creates an opportunity to support reinvestment at the south end of Main Street. The city council has authorized submittal of a $250,000 community development investment grant through the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation to support the $1.4 million project. Moore says the additional residential units are much needed in the community and specifically in the downtown.
