The American Cancer Society estimates that nearly 153,000 people in the United States will be diagnosed this year with colorectal cancer, and 53,000 will die from the disease. Dr. Richard Rosenberg is a gastroenterologist with SSM Health Fond du Lac Regional Clinic. Dr. Rosenberg says colorectal cancer may not cause any symptoms, especially in its early stages, but is highly treatable if caught early. He says that’s why screening is important. Dr. Rosenberg says the concern is that colorectal cancer is rising in young adults. In the U.S., about 10 percent of colorectal cancer cases are diagnosed in people under 50. Those numbers are rising about one to two percent each year and researchers are still finding out why. There are many types of treatments depending on the location of the cancer and the stage of diagnosis. Dr. Rosenberg was a guest on AM 1170s Between the Lines program.
