Governor Tony Evers has signed a bill which decriminalizes the use of xylazine testing strips. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says she supports the bill. “This is a proactive approach,” Mueller told WFDL news. According to the CDC, xylazine is a non-opioid sedative that is not approved for use in people, can be life threatening, and is especially dangerous when combined with opioids like fentanyl. Wisconsin has seen record high rates of opioid use disorder and overdose deaths in recent years.
