4-16-24 warm winter may mean more insects this spring and summer

A UW Madison insect expert says a warmer than normal winter may mean more mosquitos and other bugs this summer.   UW Madison extension entomologist PJ Liesch says insects could be emerging earlier this year as a result of a milder winter.   “If that trend continues throughout the year;  a warmer, hot, above average year, that might allow some insects to squeeze out extra generations in some cases,”  Liesch told AM 1170s Between the Lines program.   Liesch says much depends on the weather pattern moving forward.
