MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Bankers Association (WBA) is celebrating its seventh annual Power of Community Week April 15–20, 2024. Bank employees are engaged in their communities throughout the year, and this special week highlights the collective impact of Wisconsin’s banking industry. The WBA Power of Community Week highlights the relationships banks have with local residents, business owners, farmers, and community leaders. The WBA Power of Community Week coincides with Financial Literacy and Capability Month, Community Banking Month, and Volunteer Month. Community service projects will be taking place around the state this week, ranging from highway cleanups, food and supply drives for non-profit organizations, and Earth Day activities to fraud and scam prevention workshops, collaborations with libraries and museums, and more. WBA Power of Community Week also leads up to Teach Children to Save Day, April 25, 2024, which is designed to build strong foundations of lifelong personal finance skills.
More than 70 banks will be participating in Teach Children to Save Day, with banker volunteers utilizing the Wisconsin Bankers Foundation’s ‘Reading Raises Interest Kits’ in elementary school classrooms. This year’s Kits feature English and Spanish copies of the book ‘A Boy, a Budget, and a Dream’ by Jasmine Paul, along with lesson plans and additional materials. “The Power of Community Week highlights the collective impact of Wisconsin’s banking industry,” said Rose Oswald Poels, president and CEO of the Wisconsin Bankers Association. “Bank employees tailor their efforts to the individual needs of their areas — from giving financial literacy presentations in local schools to running food drives to volunteering in nursing homes — it shows how passionate they are.” To learn more about the Power of Community Week (April 15–20, 2024) and to see a map of the volunteer activities of banks, visit www.wisbank.com/BanksPowerWI and follow the hashtag #BanksPowerWI on social media.
