4-17-24 fdl city council, county board hold organizational meetings

The Fond du Lac County Board and city council held their organizational meetings Tuesday night with swearing in ceremonies.  Newly elected Fond du Lac city councilmembers Angela Luehring and Antonio Godrey and incumbents Brett Zimmerman and Tom Schuessler  were sworn into office.  Zimmerman was the top vote-getter in the spring election and Godfrey was elected to the fourth open seat by a slim four vote margin.   Councilmember Tiffany Brault was elected council president, replacing Keith Heisler who was elected council vice president.  Newcomer Tom Herlache and incumbent supervisor Karen Madigan were sworn into office for another term on the county board after winning the only contested races.   Supervisor Steve Abel was unanimously reelected county board chairman for another two years.  “My priority is to try and work the best we can with the executive’s office and get the governing done for the county,”  Abel told WFDL news.  “The last two years we’ve accomplished a lot of things, balanced difficult budgets, added new police (sheriff’s deputies) officers, wage study for the county.”   Abel says one of the big issues facing the county this year is what to do with the UWO-FDL property when the campus closes this summer.
