4-17-24 new wic rules

The federal program that helps pay for groceries for millions of low-income mothers,  babies and young kids will emphasize more fruits, vegetables and whole grains.  New rules to the WIC program were announced last week.  Fond du Lac County Public Health Services supervisor, Michelle Robbins, says she is really excited about the new rules.  “I think it offers a lot of opportunities for local families to have better access to more nutritional options,”  Robbins told WFDL news.    They extend COVID-era cash vouchers for fruits and vegetables.  The rules also focus on whole grains, and eliminate or reduce juice and lower the quantities of milk.  WIC served about 6.6 million people a month in 2023 at a cost of about $7 billion.   About 1,000 families are served in Fond du Lac County.
