5-2-24 teen intern sought at fdl public library for the summer

Know a high school junior or senior who would like a summer job that gives them a chance to make a difference in the community?   The Fond du Lac Public Library will hire its first-ever teen intern for this summer, providing that teen an opportunity to create their own connected learning project while working directly with  mentors at the Fond du Lac Public Library.   This grant-funded position is available to area youth who are 16-19 years old who have not yet started college. Interns will learn about librarianship and library work as well as develop a program or service based on their interests, background, and talents. The ideal teen will be available 15 to 20 hours per week, be able to work with a diverse population, and have a desire to develop a project that makes an impact on the local community.  The position has been created with support from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and is based on the Public Library Association’s Inclusive Internship Initiative.  Previous recipients of this grant in other communities have created an intergenerational LGBTQ+ roundtable, produced a music video to promote the library, generated a library resource booklet for at-risk youth, digitized local history materials, implemented a Latinx teen book club, and led salsa dance lessons for elementary-aged summer reading participants.   The intern will work for 60-120 hours, which can begin as early as Monday, June 3 and must be completed by Friday, Aug. 30.  Learn more about this limited-term internship and how to apply at fdlpl.org/jobs .   Fond du Lac Public Library operates two locations: the Main Library at 32 Sheboygan St. in downtown Fond du Lac, and the Allen J.
