A consultant recommends the city of Waupun combine city and community fire services and expand it’s paid on call roster. Those are among several recommendations outlined in a recently completed Fire and Emergency Response staffing study. Waupun city administrator Kathy Schlieve says combining city and community fire services would reduce duplication and save taxpayer money. In a combination department the city would hire firefighter/paramedics and ambulance revenue would allow the city to add full time staff to complement paid on call firefighter and EMRs. The study recommends increasing the number of paid on call firefighters by ten to ensure adequate coverage.
