The number of US fatal overdoses fell last year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says about 107,500 people died of overdoses in the US last year. That’s down three percent from 2022. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the decline is relatively small. “I would say overall it’s a good thing, it’s one year though, so it’s unknown if it’s going to spike up again,” Mueller told WFDL news. Mueller says it’s too soon to know what spurred the decline. The last time a decline occurred, in 2018, drug deaths shot up afterward.
