5-29-24 dodge county sheriff’s office continues to investigate crash that killed four teens

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate a multiple fatal vehicle crash at a Dodge County intersection.    The driver of a pickup, 19 year old Luis Gamillo of Sun Prairie and three passengers, 18 year old Alix Hernandez of Fall River, 17 year old Erik Gamillo Calzada and 16 year old Ivan Herrera both of Sun Prairie were killed when their vehicle was struck by a semi.  The crash happened early Monday morning at the intersection of state Highway 16/60 and County Highway TT.  Sheriff Dale Schmidt says in the past ten years there have been nine crashes at that intersection, including two major injury crashes, and one fatal crash where two people died.  Schmidt says Dodge County has made safety recommendations to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, but those recommendations have not been approved.  Schmidt says enhancements that may make a difference include flashing lights on the stop signs, reflectors, and others.  He says Dodge County has no control over safety improvements, but will continue to review the intersection and make safety recommendations in the future.
