Fond du Lac teachers and custodians have a new contract. The Fond du Lac School Board has approved a new contract for this school year for the teacher’s union and custodian and maintenance union. Superintendent Dr. Jeff Fleig says the deal includes a base wage increase of 4.1 percent. Fleig says the wage increase comes at a time when Wisconsin public schools are dealing with an ongoing teacher retention problem. According to a new report by the Department of Public Instruction almost 40 percent of teachers are leaving within their first six years in the field. State superintendent Jill Underly says inadequate compensation and growing worklaods are two major reasons for the concerning trend.
