6-11-24 fdl symphonic band opens summer season

“Hands Across the Sea” is the theme of the Fond du Lac Symphonic Band’s first summer concert, which is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12.  Under the direction of Music Director Evan Chancellor, the performance will take place in the Wifler Performance Center in Buttermilk Creek Park, 801 S. Park Avenue, beginning at 7:15 p.m.  Selections include Fondy High student Jake Bertram performing Carnival of Venice on euphonium, plus English Folk Song Suite by  Vaughan Williams, An Irish Rhapsody by Grundman, Johann Strauss’ The Gypsy Baron Overture, Spring Festival by Chen Yi, San Antonio Dances, Sammy Nestico’s An Ellington Festival, and Sousa’s Hands Across the Sea march.  Next up in the Wednesday night series is the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra on June 19, followed by the popular European ethnic band, Dorf Kapelle on June 26.  The concession stand will be hosted by Ridge Road Church of Eldorado offering sandwiches, desserts and beverages beginning at 6:15 p.m. In the event of unsuitable weather, the concert will be moved to the Fond du Lac County fairgrounds.   While all Buttermilk Festival concerts are free of charge, free-will offerings are received to help defray costs.
