The chair of the Assembly committee on corrections says his committee will hold hearings following a Dodge County Sheriff’s investigation into the deaths of four inmates at the Waupun Correctional Institution. The investigation has resulted in the arrested of nine staff members at the prison including the warden. Republican state representative Michael Schraa of Oshkosh says the findings of the investigations are “sickening” and says there will be oversight over the Department of Corrections moving forward. Responding to a recommendation from the Dodge County Sheriff to close the prison and build a new prison, Schraa says the numbers are staggering. “It’s going to cost $750 million to $1 billion,” Schraa told AM 1170s Between the Lines program.
