The Waupun mayor says he was literally sickened when he heard the news about the findings of the investigation into four inmate deaths at the Waupun Correctional Institution. The Dodge County Sheriff announced last week that the prison warden and eight members of his staff have been charged following the investigation. “The sheriff and I have been friends a long time and we have a good working relationship and he did call me ahead of time to warn me what was coming,” mayor Rohn Bishop told WFDL news. “…and I got off the phone with him and walked down the hallway and threw up.” Bishop says when he toured the prison earlier this year he was unaware the problems were this serious. But Bishop says he doesn’t think closing the prison is the answer.
