6-13-24 record tourism spending in wisconsin

Governor Tony Evers and the state Department of Tourism says 2023 was another record breaking year for tourism.   According to 2023 economic impact data, the tourism industry generated $25 billion in total economic impact, surpassing the previous record of $23.7 billion set in 2022.  Destination Lake Winnebago Region’s Craig Molitor says he believes the increased tourism spending is largely due to pent up demand.  Molitor says economic impact growth was up in Fond du Lac County the last two years.  Statewide the tourism industry supported more than 178,000 part and full-time jobs, and generated $1.6 billion in state and local tax revenue, up 5.8 percent from 2022.
