6-26-24 latin flavor carnival

FOND DU LAC – Step right up and experience the food, music, dancing, and games traditional of Latin America when Holy Family Catholic Community’s Latin Flavor Carnival returns for its third year on Sunday, July 14.  Established in 2022, the Latin Flavor Carnival is a celebration of the diverse Hispanic community that makes up not only Holy Family Parish, but also the area, state, and nation. Over the past five years, the Hispanic community has grown in the parish, and has come to include people with familial roots from throughout Latin American, such from Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Venezuela.  “Our Catholic parish, like Fond du Lac, is home to people from many cultures, and the
Latin Flavor Carnival provides us a perfect opportunity to showcase the heritage of our parishioners and allow people to develop a greater appreciation for them through
experiencing their food, dance, and music,” Holy Family Catholic Community Pastor, Very Rev. Ryan J Pruess said.  The festivities will begin with 10:00 am Mass in English at Holy Family Church, 271 Fourth Street Way. After the Mass, the Holy Family Prayer Garden will welcome hundreds of people for a day of great entertainment. One of main draws of the event is the variety of traditional foods available for purchase. On the menu this year are tacos, burritos, tamales, nachos, corn cocktails, quesadillas, pozole, barbacoa, crispy
tacos (flautas), carnitas and chicharrónes (a traditional pork dish), pupusas, duritos, fruit coolers, spiced fruit, ice cream cones and sundaes, and much more!  While you eat your way through the delicacies of various Latin American countries, you will have the chance to listen to the music of D.J. Estrella from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, and see incredible traditional dancing from the Ballet Folklórico Xanharati dance group from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. As one cannot have a carnival without games, visitors  will be able to play balloon darts/juego de bombas con dardos, ring toss/juego de atinale a la botella, and a card matching game, as well as try out the new 360-degree photo booth.  Children will love the Show4Kids, taking place from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, and those looking for more ways to compete can participate in the dance and jalapeño eating contests at 5:00 pm. Miss Fond du Lac, Teen 2024 Brisa Hernandez will also appear at the event.  For those who would like to attend, the parish will also offer a Spanish Mass at noon in the church directly adjacent to the Prayer Garden.  Admission is free, and food will be available for purchase. Those who attend are asked to park in the church’s west parking lot. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved into the Holy Family Parish Hall. “Every year, we look forward to hosting our Latin Flavor Carnival, and we cannot wait to welcome the community again this year,” Pruess said.
