7-12-24 representatives from documentary and little white school house to share wisconsin’s republican party history at rnc

RIPON, WISCONSIN — July 10th, 2024 — As Milwaukee, Wisconsin prepares to welcome guests attending the Republican National Convention (RNC), the historic Little White Schoolhouse stands ready to offer a glimpse into a pivotal moment in American political history. Located just 1.5 hours from Milwaukee, the Schoolhouse is a testament to Ripon’s role as the birthplace of the Republican Party, founded here 170 years ago.  For those unable to visit Ripon, the excitement continues with a special addition to the Convention Fest area: a meticulously crafted replica of the Little White Schoolhouse. Constructed by Ripon High School students at ⅓ scale, this replica serves as a centerpiece in parades and city events. It’s an opportunity for convention attendees and visitors alike to learn about Ripon’s pivotal role in American politics, conveniently located right at the heart of the convention activities.   Mandy Kimes, Executive Director of the Ripon Chamber of Commerce, expressed enthusiasm about showcasing Ripon’s unique history: “We look forward to the many opportunities we will have to share about the Little White Schoolhouse and the significance of what happened there 170 years ago. This is Ripon’s unique history and contribution to the development of our nation.”  Adding to the historical exploration is the story of Joshua Glover, a fugitive slave whose arrest and rescue in Wisconsin played a crucial role in the formation of the Republican Party. This remarkable story is the focus of the documentary Liberty at Stake: The Joshua Glover Story. The documentary delves into Glover’s dramatic escape from slavery, his arrest under the Fugitive Slave Act, and the subsequent rescue by a determined group of Wisconsinites. This event was a catalyst for the founding of the Republican Party in Ripon, further fueling the abolitionist movement and shaping the nation’s political landscape.  Michael Jahr, the Director of Liberty at Stake, said…”there’s no better time to tell the story of Joshua Glover and the Little White Schoolhouse.”  “We’re excited to premiere a mini-documentary during the RNC. The 12-minute film will be shown multiple times at the Miller High Life Theatre on Monday afternoon. Everyone is welcome to stop by for a viewing.”  Join us at the Republican National Convention to discover and celebrate the rich history of Ripon, the birthplace of the Republican Party, and the enduring legacy of Joshua Glover’s fight for freedom.
