7-26-24 city of fdl enters into agreement to replace aging bridge

The Fond du Lac city council has approved entering into an agreement to replace an aging bridge.  City engineer Chris Johnson says under the agreement the city will pay approximately $288,000 and the state and federal government would pick up 80 percent of the $3 million cost to replace  the Hickory Street bridge.   Johnson says the bridge over the west branch of the  Fond du lac River  was built in 1965.   Johnson says the bridge has a sufficiency rating of 39.2 with numerous spalls, exposed and broken   strands,  cracked beam, and abutment cracking.   He says that has triggered a 40 ton maximum  loading and staff will continue with inspections until the bridge is replaced.  Construction of the new bridge is planned for 2029.
