8-1-24 oshkosh man sentenced to prison in fatal owi crash in fdl county

An Oshkosh man convicted  in connection  with a fatal alcohol-related crash in Fond du Lac County is going to prison.  Fond du Lac County Circuit Judge Tricia Walker sentenced 57 year old Brian Sippel to 28 years in prison followed by 15 years extended supervision.  Sippel earlier pleaded no contest to homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle. Investigators say  Sippel was intoxicated when he struck a vehicle that was stopped at a traffic signal on the Highway 151  Bypass at Interstate 41 on January 14 2023.  The crash killed a Waukesha man and injured in wife.    “The insidious nature of alcoholism and drunk driving destroys good people and devastates families,”  Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said.  “The defendant had two prior drunk driving convictions and now his third conviction stole the life of a family’s husband, father, son, and friend.  There were no winners with today’s sentencing but I hope this sentence serves as a solemn reminder to have a plan for a designated driver, an Uber, a Lyft, or a taxi to ensure you get home safely, as well as those on our roadways.”    A Go Fund Me account has been created to help Mike Hoffman’s wife Julie and his son Caleb with college, medical expenses, and day-to-day expenses: http://gofund.me/2e70c0f9
