The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office with cooperation from the state Department of Corrections is investigating another inmate death at the Waupun Correctional Institution. Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt says shortly before 7:30am Monday the Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the prison regarding an inmate death. Schmidt says an initial investigation indicates this was likely a self-inflicted incident. Sources tell WFDL news an inmate was found hanging in his south cell hall Monday morning. Schmidt says the initial investigation also shows that at the time of discovery, staff responded rapidly and appropriately, providing medical aid in an effort to save the inmate’s life. Schmidt says this case remains an open investigation as we evaluate all aspects of the incident. He says no further updates will be available in this case until it has come to a conclusion. Sources told WFDL news the inmate was Christopher MacDonald who was serving a life sentence for first degree murder.
