FOND DU LAC – The Holy Family Warming Shelter is giving the community a chance to win big while doing good as they launch their first raffle! All proceeds will benefit the
shelter’s operations this upcoming season, as they care for those experiencing homelessness in the area. The Holy Family Warming Shelter opened in 2023 to offer up to thirty single adults respite from the cold weather every night from November through April. Through the collaboration of many local organizations and the generosity of community members, the Holy Family Warming Shelter served 146 individuals and distributed more than 1,000 meals in its first season. “They say it takes a village to care for those in need, and that is true at the Holy Family Warming Shelter as well. The community’s support is what made our first season successful, and what we are hoping will make our next season a success as well,” Holy Family Catholic Community Director of Human Concerns Erin Cobb said. As shelter staff look towards opening again in November, they are planning for its operations to cost approximately $200,000 when including staffing and utilities. To help reduce some of this cost, the shelter has launched its Holy Family Warming Shelter Raffle. From now through October 24, 2024, people can purchase a raffle 271 Fourth Street Way Fond du Lac, WI 54937 920-921-0580 www.hffdl.org ticket for $20 — or six tickets for $100 — for the chance to win monetary prizes of up to $10,000. Other prizes include $3,500, $2,500, and $1,000. Thanks to the generosity of sponsors, including gold-level sponsors Ledgevest Financial and Uecker-Witt Funeral Home & Crematory, the proceeds of every ticket sale will benefit the Holy Family Warming Shelter.
Tickets can be purchased at the following locations during their open hours:
First Weber Realtors, 845 S. Main St.
FVS Bank, 51 E. 1st St.
Fond du Lac Family YMCA, 90 W. 2nd St.
The Holy Family Parish Office, 271 Fourth Street Way
Hopper’s, 77 N. Main St.
St. Mary’s Springs Academy SCRIP Office, 255 County Road K
Beginning Friday, August 23, tickets can also be purchased online at hffdl.org/raffle. “We are blessed to have many community partners who are supporting this raffle as a
sponsor and by selling tickets. They have ensured that all the money raised will benefit those receiving care at the shelter this coming season,” Cobb said. Winners will be drawn on Thursday, October 24 when the Holy Family Warming Shelter celebrates its Grand Unveiling at 73 E. First St. Over the summer, the shelter has undergone necessary renovations to increase its capacity, add four on-site bathrooms and showers, and improve overall accessibility. Beginning at 3:00 pm, the community can tour the shelter, with the ribbon cutting and raffle drawing to follow at 5:30 pm. “The Holy Family Warming Shelter is more than a place to sleep for those in need. It is a place for them to eat warm meals, to care for their hygiene, to rest, and to be treated with dignity and respect,” Cobb said. “We are very excited to welcome the community to the Holy Family Warming Shelter this October, and celebrate what their support has made possible — as well as to send someone home with a $10,000 prize.”
