8-27-24 ssm health st. agnes hospital supporting community stroke day

SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital is helping to support “Community Stroke Day: Soaring After Stroke” from 9 am – 3 pm on Saturday, September 7 at the EAA Aviation Museum, 3000 Poberezny Road in Oshkosh.  The annual event – designed for stroke survivors and caregivers – is filled with various activities for education, fun and relaxation, and includes a keynote speaker. Participants benefit by feeling empowered/supported during their journey and connecting with others who have had experienced similar challenges in their lives.  The event costs $15 per person with check-in from 9 – 9:30 am. A light lunch is provided, as well as snacks. Music and art therapy are offered throughout the day.
Kate Adamson, who survived both locked-in syndrome and stroke, is the keynote and motivational speaker.   Participants can explore EAA throughout the event.  Started in 2017, the Community Stroke Day is supported by SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital and five other regional hospitals between the Fox Valley and Green Bay.  “We’re proud to be a part of such an incredible event,” according to Sarah Jentink, SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital inpatient physical therapist. “We have a phenomenal stroke program. As a primary stroke center, we are able to care for individuals over a large geographic area. Our inpatient rehab therapy team helps to prepare individuals who have experienced a stroke to return as independently and safely as possible to their specific community. This event allows us to continue reaching them beyond their discharge.”   SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital recently received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award for its commitment to ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines, ultimately leading to more lives saved and reduced disability.  St. Agnes Hospital also received two other honor designations, including:
  • Target: Stroke Elite Honor Roll, after meeting specific criteria that reduces the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic therapy.
  • Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, which aims to ensure patients with Type 2 diabetes, who might be at higher risk for complications, receive the most up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.
“With the Inpatient Rehab Unit that we have in Fond du Lac, we would love to get our past patients involved and supported within the community in a new way,” Jentink says.
