Fond du Lac city officials are monitoring a growing homeless population in the city. City manager Joe Moore there has been an increase in the number of people who are homeless in the city. “We have seen in 2024 more people coming to the library and spending the entire day there,” Moore told WFDL news. “We’ve seen many more people on Main Street, in some of the areas on the edges of the city where it’s heavily vegetated, where in years past we’ve seen small encampments, but this year we’ve seen all of those areas more populated throughout this summer.” Moore says social workers embedded with the police department have engaged with homeless people to try to connect them with services to help them find a permanent shelter. Moore says some downtown business owners have expressed concerns about homeless people in front of their business.
