The Fond du Lac Chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace, a non-profit charity whose mission is “NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN”, has reached a milestone this past weekend by building their 1000th bed on Friday. According to Chapter President Tom Otte “SHP is on a mission to end ‘Bedlessness’ in Fond du Lac County, and in 3.5 years our local 100% volunteer group has delivered 908 beds to kids in Fond du Lac County who sleep without a bed, or less than ideal conditions.” Chapter Co-President Christine Otte states “Kids who rest better, test better. They behave better and have someplace to go for warmth and refuge. A bedroom without a bed is just a room”. The group builds beds 5 times per year, and now delivers on average a bed per day in FdL County. “Being all volunteers, we rely solely on local donors, and Corporate sponsored Builds that involve up to 100 employees or local volunteers. It makes an immediate huge impact on the lives of kids in our town.” says Otte. “I think the volunteers get impacted too” he says.
