10-3-24 city manager: fdl homeless count at 24

The Fond du Lac city manager says Fond du Lac’s homeless population that doesn’t have a permanent shelter is less than 30 people, and all but two are from Fond du Lac.  The Fond du Lac city council last month approved an ordinance that prohibits camping on public property.   City manager Joe Moore says the ordinance focuses primarily on individuals who have been camping on public property in downtown Fond du Lac near the corner of South Main and Sheboygan Streets.  “Frankly that’s incompatible with the business interests in that area  and we needed to address that,”  Moore told WFDL news.  “This will give the Police Department at least the authority to encourage people to number one get services, that’s always goal number one, then get them connected to someone who can help them.”  Moore says police have counted 24 people who are living on the street without permanent housing in Fond du Lac.  All but two are from the city of Fond du Lac.
