Fond du Lac County has seen it’s share of high profile cases involving undocumented immigrants. One of those cases involving a Nicaraguan man charged with human trafficking was highlighted by former president Donald Trump during a recent campaign stop in Dodge County. But Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney says while those serious cases may make the headlines, lower level, criminal traffic violations involving undocumented immigrants are creating a different set of problems for the court system. Toney says when undocumented immigrants are charged with a traffic offense it becomes a criminal offense because they don’t have a drivers license. Toney says multiple days and even months have been set aside for interpreter days to deal with these traffic cases, impacting other more serious cases, and even the day to day operations in the court system.
