11-21-24 oakfield school officials go back to the drawing board

Oakfield school officials are picking up the pieces and deciding the next steps after a school operations referendum was narrowly defeated in the November election.   School District administrator Dr. Sarah Poquette says she is obviously disappointed, but says it’s important to listen to the community and constituents.   Dr. Poquette says she believes the school district still has a high level of support, but says there were a lot of factors that came into play with the election.  Poquette says most of the school district’s budget covers staffing, and says the need has not gone away.   The school board will meet November 26th to decide what the next steps will be including the possibility of another referendum in April.  The referendum asked voters for permission to spend $1.1 million each year for the next four years.
