Hello Waupun!
I’m writing this week’s column while drinking a coffee and listening to Christmas music at Wind and Unwind; watching the snow come down so hard it’s like a mini blizzard! The shop is decorated nicely, and with the snow falling, it kinda feels like I’m in a Hallmark movie. By the time you read this, we should have lit up this year’s Community Christmas Tree. Thank you to Bill and Pam Buchholz for donating the tree in memory of Betty Buchholz, and thank you to Torres Tree Service for harvesting and transporting the tree. A special thank you to Stephaine Starker for taking the lead setting up this year’s ceremony. Coming up on December 3rd will be the Grand Opening of the new Waupun Community Center! There’ll be an open house at 3pm, a dedication and ribbon cutting at 4, and tours, along with refreshments and prizes! I hope to see you there! Then on December 6, at 6pm, is the Waupun Christmas Parade. This week as we celebrate Thanksgiving, I think back to three years ago this past week, when we buried my dad. In many ways dad’s passing has changed my perspective on things. I seem to care less about saving for the future and try to do more fun things with Jenny and the kids now. Dad was only 63, and you’re not promised tomorrow. I think this potential lack of time also pushes me to have a sense of urgency to get stuff done. While I’m proud of our list of accomplishments since becoming Mayor, I have a few more things I want to get done, and I’ll keep pushing hard! I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve as your mayor, and for entrusting me with this role. Finally, if you’re a hunter, have a good and safe hunt.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Mayor Rohn
