11-27-24 snowplow safety

With winter season approaching the Dodge County Highway Department is reminding motorists to treat snowplow drivers with respect and cooperation.  Highway commissioner Brian Field says snow plow operators are experiencing more and more accidents and close calls with the same people and vehicles they are trying to help.  “The number one advice anytime is to slow down,”  Field told WFDL news.  “Our drivers are trying to do their job and motorists should reciprocate by driving at a slower speed, being under control,  follow at a safe distance,  we recommend 200 feet behind that truck,”   Field says a typical Dodge County highway snow plow route is 17 miles long and may take two hours or more for a truck to make one pass through the route.
