12-3-24 milwaukee man sentenced to prison in drug overdose death

A Milwaukee man is going to prison for a drug overdose death in Fond du Lac County.   Fond du Lac County Circuit judge Anthony Nehls sentenced Derrise Lamon Townsend Jr. to eight years in prison followed by seven years extended supervision.   Townsend was convicted of  First Degree Reckless Homicide for a May 2020 fentanyl death that occurred in Fond du Lac County.    “This is another tragic loss for a family that had to bury their child with a hole now in their hearts. There are no winners in these sentencing hearings but we will continue to seek prison sentences to cut off the supply of poison into our community,”  District Attorney Eric Toney stated.  “This defendant has a serious juvenile record and faces a second homicide charge in Milwaukee County.”   The charge had carried a maximum sentence of  25 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision.  Townsend is also charged with Reckless Homicide in Milwaukee County.
