Fond du Lac Fire Rescue was dispatched to 446 N. Hickory St. just before noon for a report of a fire on the second floor of the home. Upon arrival crews found smoke on the second floor of the residence. The fire was knocked down just prior to Fire Rescue arrival by a City of Fond du Lac Police Officer using a portable fire extinguisher. Fire Companies checked for fire extension in the area and found none. There was damage to the contents of a second floor bedroom. Crews removed damaged items and ventilated smoke from the home. The quick action by the Fond du Lac Police Officer prevented further damage from occurring and controlled the fire in its early stages. The fire was brought under control within 5 minutes, and no other structures were damaged. There were no injuries reported. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue Fire Investigators will be working to determine the cause and origin of the fire. Fond du Lac Fire Rescue reminds residents to be careful when using space heaters. Please keep a wide area surrounding any space heater clear of any combustible items.
