Norovirus outbreaks are on the rise in the United States this winter.  According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention there have been more outbreaks reported by state health departments since the beginning of December since 2012.  Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the norovirus,  a stomach bug, is highly contagious, causing an average of 19 million illnesses, mostly in young children, annually in the country.  How can you avoid getting the norovirus?  Mueller says keeping your hands clean is the key.   Clean fruits and vegetables before eating, cook food thoroughly.  If you’re sick, stay home and avoid others.  Disinfect surfaces and counters that may be contaminated.
