Hello Waupun!

The new Hoya Hop Brew Bub opens today (Saturday)  1/11, from noon to 10 pm, and Sunday, 1/12, from noon to 6 pm.  Regular hours will be announced coming out of this weekend. If you get a chance, I’d encourage you to stop in and offer congratulations to Matt and Michelle Brown, Jarrett Mack, and Kaitlyn and Jesse Huizenga, and welcome them to Downtown Waupun!
Also happening this Sunday to coincide with the Packers game, the Other Bar is having another Meat Raffle, this time in support of Waupun Ice Fest. Last month’s meat raffle helped Holiday Help and raised money and toys for the kids. In fact, they collected so many toys that they had more toys than could be used,  so the surplus toys are safely stored away at city hall to be used next year.  Thank you to Andy and Heather Sullivan, and the entire team at The Other Bar for all you do for Waupun’s non-profits.
The new Community Center/Senior Center has been open for a couple of months now and is super popular.  We’re looking for some part-time help to help us have it open more hours. We’re looking for some early morning help (6 am or earlier) in the evenings (4 to 8 or 9) and weekends.  Initially I had a lot of interest, but once the jobs were posted people seemed scared away because of weekend hours. To help with this, I’m willing to increase the number of positions we create to help spread the hours around and give flexibility.  Weekends would still be necessary, but maybe one weekend every other month, or whatever I have to do to hire you!  🙂  If you have an interest or want to learn more, please reach out to myself, Administrator Schlieve or Recreation Director Kaminsky.   We’re paying $20.00 per hour!  That’s not bad!
Speaking of the new Community Center, Frank Mesa, and his team at the VFW are donating a large American Flag to be displayed in the gymnasium of the new building.  Thank you Frank and team for your continued support of the Waupun Community!
Lastly, last week I wrote about a couple projects where we’re close to having enough money raised to get them over the finish line. We’re very close to having Rosie the Riveter purchased and kept here in Waupun! To help us get there, please consider a donation to “Create Waupun” and drop it off at either Horicon Bank, or City Hall.  We’re also almost there on the new floor refrigeration system for the ice arena. If you’d like to make a donation or buy the naming rights to the building, please let me or Tyler Loomans know. Remember, if the ice melts, little Morgan Gremminger will be very sad!
It’s a testament to how great the Waupun Community is when you see how often we come together and donate time, resources, or money to causes that make Waupun great. Originations like REACH, our churches, Youth for Christ, the new Community Center, all the youth sports, park equipment, the Police K-9, Ice Fest, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, etc.  What makes Waupun so great is the people who live here are pretty great!
Thank you, Waupun and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
