Hello Waupun!
I’m excited to announce that the city has approved two projects this past week. First, Eagle Flexible Packaging will be expanding in the Waupun Industrial Park with a new 52,000 square foot manufacturing plant. Eagle has also purchased the RWI facility across the street from where the new building is going. Eagle will also be keeping their current location on Taylor Street operating, so this is 60ish more family supporting jobs, plus more tax base coming to Waupun!  Second, the city approved the construction on a new multifamily apartment complex to be built on Bayberry Lane. That’s out by the truck stop.   These apartments will feature studio, as well as 2- and 3-bedroom apartments. The rents are market rate and offer residents a much-needed housing option.   With so much growth happening, along with the pay increase at the prisons bringing down the vacancy rates, Waupun needs more housing. We need places for all these people with good paying jobs to live, so they can contribute to our local economy.     This past week the city council approved the purchase of a new squad car that will be bought locally. The Board of Public Works also voted 5 to 1 to approve the purchase of a new work truck, also to be bought locally.  I mention this because it shows that we’re changing the culture of city government. We used to only care about squeezing a penny, but now we’re looking at the big picture and making the decisions based on the best value for our community!   This culture shift is also applicable to our city’s branding. Three years ago, it was controversial to rebrand Waupun as the City of Sculpture, but today the branding is thriving. The Ice Fest ice sculptures are only a few weeks away, you see our city flag flying around Waupun, the new sculpture tour sculptures are a popular addition to Waupun, and we’ve seen a new appreciation of Mr. Shaler’s legacy, an appreciation that includes a really nice exhibit about Mr. Shaler at the Heritage Musuem.
Waupun continues to really be having it going on!
Thank you and God Bless,
Mayor Rohn
