The Senate has confirmed former Wisconsin Republican congressman Sean Duffy as the next secretary of transportation . Duffy returns to public office for the first time in nearly six years. The 53 year old Duffy was confirmed on a 77-22 vote. He was among President Donald Trump’s least controversial cabinet picks and garnered bipartisan praise at his confirmation hearing earlier this month.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) released a statement on her vote to confirm former Rep. Sean Duffy as Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT).
“Today, I voted to confirm former Rep. Sean Duffy as Secretary of Transportation because together, we can do right by Wisconsin families, businesses, and workers. As I’ve said before, it is critical that we have a Secretary of Transportation who understands Wisconsin’s transportation needs, and I have confidence, Sean is that guy. I have long fought to ensure our infrastructure is built with American products by American workers – and I will continue to press Sean to ensure that work continues. Senator Baldwin spoke on the Senate floor in support of former Rep. Sean Duffy and also introduced him at the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation hearing. During the hearing, Senator Baldwin also pressed former Rep. Sean Duffy on the incoming Trump Administration’s commitment to keeping in place her long-championed Buy America rules, which ensure taxpayer dollars spent on infrastructure are supporting American businesses and jobs.
