The sturgeon spearing season begins this weekend and the Wisconsin DNR is reminding spearers to use extra caution when venturing out on the ice. There have been several incidents involving vehicles going into open water or breaking through thin ice. The DNR says always wear a life jacket, go with more than one person, check ice conditions with local fishing clubs and notify someone where you plan to be.
