2-11-25 fdl county justice facility

The Fond du Lac County Board this week will get it’s first look at a proposed Justice Center.  A presentation will be made at Tuesday night’s county board meeting for a $300 million facility  that would house a new jail, the sheriff’s office,  dispatch, district attorney and court system.  County Board chairman Steve Abel says whatever the county board decides to do the problem with an overcrowded, outdated county jail is not going to go away and the cost to replace it is not going to get any less expensive.   Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt says building a new jail in the parking lot across the street is not as straightforward as it may seem on the surface.  Waldschmidt says the bottom line is something needs to be done.  The justice facility would be located on property next to the Highway Garage on Hickory Road.
