A man who was high on drugs and huffing aerosol when his car plowed into a Verizon phone store in Fond du Lac has been placed on probation. Benjamin Ayer was convicted of eight counts including intoxicated use of marijuana, reckless endangering safety and operating while intoxicated causing injury. Fond du Lac judge Andrew Christianson placed Ayer on probation for 11 years with a year of conditional jail time. The District Attorney had recommended at least 10 years in prison and a pre-sentence investigation recommended a sentence of more than 12 years in prison. One person was seriously injured in the crash at the Verizon store near the Fond du Lac Target store.
