2-18-25 dodge county sheriff’s office thin ice warning

The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office is issuing this release as information to use caution on a particular area of Beaver Dam Lake following three snowmobiles going through the ice in a 24-hour period. An area of the lake generally north/northeast of Evergreen Island near the south end of the lake has been identified as particularly dangerous since the recent snowfall. Residents in the area informed our deputies that this area had recently been open water, and a small layer of ice is now concealed by the recent snowfalls.  On the afternoon of February 15, 2025, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Beaver Dam Fire Department and Paramedics responded to two snowmobiles traveling together that went through the ice. Both riders were able to extricate themselves from the water and were assisted to shore by a passerby, and had returned home while responders were working to locate and rescue them. Neither rider reported injuries.  On the morning of February 16, 2025, the same agencies responded to a lone snowmobile that went through in the same area. This rider was picked up by the Beaver Dam Fire Department hovercraft and brought back to shore. This rider was wet and cold, but uninjured.  Local bait shops are typically good sources of information as to ice depth, and hazardous areas. No ice is 100% safe.
