Madison, WI – State Senator Dan Feyen (R-Fond du Lac) released the following statement after Governor Tony Evers’ 2025 Budget Address and introduction of his Executive budget proposal tonight:
“Tonight, the Governor laid out his wish list of ideas for the 2025-2026 state budget. Governor Evers has once again presented a budget chalked-full of unchecked spending, more government, and higher taxes. His so-called ‘budget’ is nothing more than a wish list that fails to prioritize responsible investments in our state’s future. “The Governor’s repeated fixation on President Trump and what is going on in Washington D.C. made me wonder if he actually realizes that he is in Wisconsin. His continued “spend, spend, spend” approach to yet another budget makes it clear that he wants Wisconsin’s government so expansive that it is practically a carbon copy of the federal government, reaching into every facet of our lives. President Trump is right-sizing the federal government, we need to do the same in Wisconsin. “As I’ve said for the past two years, the State of Wisconsin continues to sit on record surpluses. Current estimates show that state government has collected 4.5 million more dollars than it needs to operate. That’s money that should be back in your pocket. I commit that I will make tax cuts a priority in this budget and the session as a whole. “Over the coming months, the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee will travel across the state to get public feedback on the Governor’s recommendations and will then craft the legislature’s version of the state budget. Legislative Republicans will present a budget that is responsible and funds essential services while lowering taxes for hardworking Wisconsin taxpayers. “Wisconsin deserves a budget that focuses on fiscal discipline, economic growth, and sustainable investments—Republicans are ready to get to the table and deliver just that.”
