2-28-25 waupun mayor column

Hello Waupun!
This week I had the privilege of traveling to Washington, D.C to lobby for Waupun and Waupun Utilites. I was able to meet one on one with Congressman Grothman and in a big group with Senators Baldwin and Johnson. We discussed federal issues that affect Cities like Waupun, federal spending cuts, and government reforms that the Trump Administration might push. Our biggest issue was keeping municipal bonds tax free, and the pressures mandates put on us. All in all, the meetings were good discussions, and all our representatives seemed very supportive of us.
Last week we approved an easement for American Transmission Company to upgrade the high voltage power lines that come through Waupun. I asked if the pole by the End of the Trail Sculpture could be moved or raised up. I do get complaints from people who take photos of the sculpture and the wires in the background are ugly, especially when fishing tackle is tangled in them. While no guarantees were made, ATC seemed very open to working with me to accomplish this.  It’s more likely the pole will be taller than moved, but hopefully it improves the aesthetics of the area.
Finally, congratulations to the Waupun Warriors Varsity Basketball team for winning back-to-back conference championships!!  Congrats to Coaches Alex Dunlap and Kyle Bille and to all the young men on the team. You made Waupun proud this season and I’m hopeful to make a trip to Madison to cheer you on!  (Coach Bille, the Mayor should have a Conference Champs shirt! 🙂 )
God Bess and remember to relax and Waup On!
Mayor Rohn
